I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! I wanted to let you all know that there’s a big Cyber Weekend Sale going on now through Monday, 11/28 in my (online) mosaic Etsy shop. Everything in the shop is 20% off. I usually don’t run sales for my mosaic work, so take advantage of this rare opportunity!!

This stunning and colorful over-sized mosaic mirror entitled, “Love Birds” features beautiful iridescent black stained glass that is so dynamic and changes color depending on the angle you view it from. At the top of the mirror is a sculptural heart covered with rich red wine mirrored stained glass and at the center is an antique key hole escutcheon framing the word “Love”. The body of the mirror is highlighted by vintage porcelain featuring a variety of beautiful birds surrounded by sparkling glass rhinestones and colorful gems. The mirror is accented by bright yellow/gold, spring green and teal mirrored stained glass and finished with black sanded tile grout.
The whole piece measures approximately 3.5 feet long X 2 feet wide. The heart has a depth of 3 inches and the rest of the mirror has a depth of approximately 1 inch. The mirror inside measures 12” X 21”.

I’ve been making these sweet little mosaic birds since around 2005. They have evolved over time and no longer have pipe cleaner feet…after all, when you’re flying it’s more aerodynamic to have your feet tucked against your body, right? I’ve recently started making the wings out of brass, copper or aluminum that I stamp with a special phrase and some are also adorned with a metal crown. Check out my new Etsy shop, Amy Lou Fancher Mosaics to see what birds are available.

As many of you know, I’ve been recovering from two hip replacement surgeries…doing awesome, however, no new VSL designs yet…but tons of seconds and slightly imperfects and lots on sale for the Viva Sweet Love goodies. Central New York folks: Please come out if you can- it would be so lovely to see you…seriously, I’m not kidding!!
For those of you living outside CNY, I don’t have an online shop yet for my mosaic pieces. However, if anyone is interested in purchasing a mosaic piece, please email me at fancher.amy@gmail.com and we can discuss the details.

I made this five layer Wedding Cake for a 10th anniversary solo show I had in Syracuse, NY. The germination period was about 5 years and involved various experiments with different materials for the base form of the cake. Plaster of Paris was one of the materials experimented with, however it was much too heavy! Foil wrapped foam insulation ended up being the material of choice which was carved into round cake-like layers w/ a serrated knife and glued together. To create the frosting I tinted caulk with acrylic paint, let it dry slightly then piped it through a piping bag with various decorative tips.
As a side note- in the first photograph of the cake (w/ dark background) I had to remove one of the layers because the cake was too tall for the back drop paper.
Materials: Particle board, foam insulation, styrofoam, stained glass, mirrored stained glass, porcelain flowers, vintage cake topper, caulk, acrylic paint, construction adhesive, tile grout
Dimensions: 40″H x 18″W
